What effect does this picture has..?

On this photo, your camera exposed you and over exposed the background. You could try whats called "high key". Its a technique used with lights really but is the same principle as this. I shoot high key 2 f stops higher on background then subject. Some times less sometimes more, but 2 stops is good. I like f 11 for background and will shoot at 9 on subject with white paper back.
