My fish were wiped out by some disease? whats next?

all my fish started dying on my 45 gallon tank over a period of one week they were all gone. Some looked like they had ich and some slime. The only survivors are the trumpet snails. What should i do before i start buying fish again and giving it another try? should i do a complete water change?
